Here's What's Happening!

Kindergartners and First Graders!

This week, our Kindergartners and First Graders read a great story called, “Muncha, Muncha, Muncha,” by Candace Fleming. This story has a pattern and lots of fun words! Poor Mr. McGreely finally plants a spring garden, only to have it munched away by rabbits! I can relate! 😂

After reading our story, we used Tux Paint and tried a draw along to create bunnies of our own. It was awesome to see how far our earliest learners have come with their drawing skills! I saw so much creativity! Some first graders were able to write their own sentences, too! Great work!

Some of the groups experimented with a new way to “Fill” their picture. When they use the “Shaped” tool to fill, it adds colors around the shape. Repeating this with multiple colors gave their picture a rainbow effect! We had so much fun with this new tool, that I’ll have our other groups go back and give it a try, too!

2nd, 3Rd, and 4th Graders!

This week our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders used sequencing to program Ozobots! Together, we completed a fill-in-the-blank sheet about caring for the Earth which helped us determine which codes we needed to correctly move the Ozobot through its course! It was fun to watch students discover the importance of reading carefully, and paying close attention to sequencing. They did a great job! Next week, we’ll be doing more coding, but we’ll be coding Ozobots with tablets!

5th Graders!

This week, our fifth graders worked on a complex program for Spheros. The code helped them make the Sphero “It” for a game of Red Light, Green Light! They had to use conditional statements and comparators to program the robot. Many need a bit more time to finish up next week and then we’ll be ready to play! Be sure to ask your 5th grader about their programming adventures!
